Turkey - Rescue Cats
A message from Eleanor - owner of Purley Cattery until her retirement in early 2018Our fabulous holiday in Gocek, Turkey, was spoilt by seeing all the unwanted cats and kittens roaming the streets, starving and unneutered. In fact we came back feeling very depressed when we had to leave them, as it was the end of the season with no tourists to feed them in the foreseeable future.
We could either never go back……….or do something about it. Having done rescue work in Croydon for 20 years I knew I couldn’t leave it. Gocek is small enough that if we can neuter them all, we can get it under control.
We had a fund raising bazaar at the Cattery in December 2009, and a group of us went back again in January 2010 and made a start. We neutered 39 in a week, and got a discount from a vet.
Since then we have made contact with some German ladies who live there and will do the trapping if we raise the funds. In other words we are now the fund-raising arm of the charity. They are so thrilled that someone is trying to do something about it, because if there are complaints from the tourists, the Belediye (the equivalent of our Council) will have no choice but to collect them up and kill them. We thought that if we could neuter them, we could get it under control, and so far to 2018 over 1500 cats have been neutered.
Please can you help us raise funds by clicking on the donate button above – any amount would be gratefully accepted.
All of us at Purley Cattery continue to support the great work Eleanor continues to do
